Function
Removal of residual suspended solids and dissolved contaminants
A key unit in soil washing, road-sweeping and construction and demolition waste treatment plants, the microfiltration plant is installed downstream of primary water treatment to remove residual particulate and dissolved contaminants. It was developed to treat clarified water from the washing of complex feed materials, which may contain residual suspended solids, colloidal particles and dissolved organic contaminants, including certain PFAS, not removed during flocculation and clarification. By removing these contaminants, the plant helps prevent their build-up in the process water and supports the treatment of excess process water prior to discharge, where required.
A bank of sand and activated-carbon filters for the removal of residual contaminants.
In plants treating contaminated soils, road-sweeping waste or C&D materials, the physicochemical process may not be sufficient to remove dissolved contaminants or residual fine particles. These compounds remain in the process water, may be recirculated with it and can affect the quality of the washed aggregates.

The clarified water is pumped to the microfiltration plant, a bank of sand filters and activated-carbon filters. Sand filtration removes residual suspended solids, while activated carbon adsorbs dissolved organic contaminants.

Without this post-treatment, certain particulate and dissolved microcontaminants may accumulate in the wash water and affect the quality of the washed aggregates.

Where overflow water has to be managed, the microfiltration plant supports the achievement of the treated-water quality required for discharge to the sewer system or for reuse as industrial water (make-up water, cleaning and other uses).

A microfiltration plant designed for integration downstream of flocculation and clarification.

Pressurised filtration allows the treatment stages to be integrated within a limited footprint.
It is installed downstream of clarification, before closed-loop reuse or possible discharge to the sewer network.
Used where residual dissolved contaminants remain in the process water after clarification.
Used to remove residual suspended solids and trace organic contaminants from the process water.
