SADF is Tecnoidea’s system for automatically regulating flocculant dosing in real time. Using a fibre-optic reader, the system continuously analyses a sample of turbid water drawn from the clarifier and adjusts the speed of the reagent dosing pumps via their variable-frequency drives. Fully automatic and unattended, it helps reduce flocculant consumption and minimise the risk of overdosing, which can reduce clariflocculation efficiency.

How SADF works

Flocculation is a complex chemical reaction. SADF helps maintain efficient flocculation by automatically regulating flocculant dosing.

The risk of overdosing

When clarifying water containing settleable suspended solids, overdosing flocculant does not improve water clarity; instead, it can re-destabilise the electrical charges of the particles, reducing flocculation efficiency and wasting an expensive reagent.

Sampling

To prevent this, SADF automatically takes a sample of turbid water from the central diffuser of the clarifier. Using a fibre-optic sensor, it assesses floc settling performance by analysing water clarity.

Continuous correction

The system compares the measured settling time with a preset reference value. If the flocs settle too slowly, SADF sends an analogue signal to the variable-frequency drives (inverters) to increase the speed of the dosing pumps and dose more product; if the flocs settle faster than the reference value, the dosing is reduced.

Real-time result

This sampling and correction take place continuously, keeping the flocculation reaction efficient throughout the process.

Technology and construction

Designed for industrial and quarrying plants, SADF combines electronic control with wear-resistant hydraulic components.

Abrasion-resistant pinch valves

The system is fitted with abrasion-resistant pinch valves (normally open) for turbid-water sampling and subsequent cleaning of the sensing unit.

Direct analogue control

SADF sends an analogue signal directly to the variable-frequency drives (inverters) of the dosing pumps, allowing real-time adjustment of dosing-pump speed.
