Beton Lana, based in Lana, in the Province of Bolzano, is active in the construction-materials sector in South Tyrol, specialising in the production of ready-mixed concrete, asphalt and aggregates. The company manages the full production cycle, from extraction in its own quarries to distribution logistics, and continues to invest in plant modernisation, material recovery and wash-water recycling within the production cycle.

The project challenges

1-100

Limited space

A new clarifier and a new filter press had to be added to the existing plant within a very limited footprint.

2-100

Modernisation

The existing filter press had to be upgraded with current-generation control and operating functions, with the modifications carried out on site to maintain operational continuity.

3-100

Volume management

The plant required fully automatic operation to handle high material throughput and treat over 400 m³/h of water in a closed loop.

Tecnoidea’s process-engineering approach

beton-lana-1-chiarificatore

Reuse of the existing clarifier

Through structural steelwork modifications, the existing clarifier was converted into a clarified-water storage tank and integrated into the new plant.

beton-lana-2-filtropressa copia

On-site upgrade of the filter press

The existing filter press was upgraded on site with software updates and the addition of a filtrate collection tray beneath the support legs.

beton-lana-3-filtropressa-ridondanza

Addition of a new filter press (redundancy)

To increase treatment capacity, a new filter press was added alongside the existing machine, equipped with an integrated, automated cloth-washing system.

Results

Automatic flocculant dosing system

The SADF system now monitors clarification performance in real time and automatically adjusts the flocculant dosing.

Optimised pressing cycles

The LEM sludge-level monitoring system continuously monitors the sludge level in the clarifier, reducing unnecessary empty filter-press cycles.

Water recovery and waste management

These integrated technologies enabled the treatment of the silt-laden wastewater, supporting water recovery and reducing make-up water requirements, and dewatered the sludge into solid, easily handled filter cakes which can, where suitable, be recovered for reuse as a secondary raw material.
