Catellani S.A.: over a century in the Swiss construction sector.

Catellani S.A., based in Granges-près-Marnand in the Canton of Vaud, operates in the Swiss infrastructure and construction sector. Its core business is quarrying gravel and aggregates for the construction industry, alongside transport, container rental and construction-waste disposal. These activities allow the company to manage multiple stages of the materials cycle, from extraction through to transport and construction-waste disposal.

The project challenges

1-100

Space constraints

The available site space had to be used efficiently through a compact plant design, without compromising plant functionality or day-to-day operation.

2-100

Water-system integration

The new treatment plant had to be integrated with the existing water-supply system, fed by river water and groundwater, while balancing plant demand with the available water supply.

3-100

Drilling-water management

An integrated approach was required to manage excess water generated during the coarse screening of drilling sludge.

Tecnoidea’s process-engineering approach

Vertical layout and reduced footprint

The plant was designed with a vertical layout to reduce the ground footprint. This configuration is well suited to sites with limited available space while maintaining the required process capacity.

Integration into the existing plant

The revamping work was designed around the existing structures of the aggregate-washing plant. This approach maintained operational continuity at the quarry without requiring lengthy interruptions to existing operations.

Team collaboration

Tecnoidea and metcam worked closely throughout the project, from design and installation through to commissioning. Coordination with the client began at the earliest design stages and continued throughout implementation.

Results

Clarified-water recovery above 95%

The clarified water is returned directly to the washing plant, achieving closed-loop water recovery of over 95% by weight. The quality of the clarified water helps reduce maintenance requirements in the washing plant.

Filter press

The Tecnoidea filter press reduces sludge volume and converts the residual solids into dewatered filter cakes. The resulting cakes are easier to handle, transport and dispose of in accordance with applicable environmental requirements.

Reliability and operational accessibility

The plant was designed to make efficient use of the available space while maintaining clear access for operation and maintenance. Regular operator care and maintenance support reliable plant operation over time.
