Sustainability isn't one chapter of our work. It is our work.

We design plants that recover washing water, reduce waste and return recoverable materials to productive use.

Since 1981, Tecnoidea has applied these principles through water and sludge treatment plants built for one clear reason: to close the water cycle without waste and to compact residues — turning them into a resource or reducing what goes to landfill.

That is why, when we talk about sustainability, we start from what we design every day — and we hold ourselves to the same standard in our own day-to-day operations.

How our plants work for the environment

Every plant we build delivers a real environmental benefit.

The closed loop

Our plants clean and recirculate the water used to wash aggregates, soil or rubble, recovering up to 95% of it. The quarry or site no longer needs to draw water continuously from rivers, groundwater or the mains: the same water keeps working, cycle after cycle. At a time when water resources are scarce, the closed loop is one of the most important contributions our plants can make.

From waste to secondary raw material

Contaminated soil or demolition material is not necessarily destined for landfill in its entirety. Our Soil Washing and Construction & Demolition waste treatment plants separate the contamination from the valuable fraction — sand and gravel — producing a material that can cease to be classified as waste and be reused in construction. This is the End-of-Waste principle: material that does not end up in landfill but re-enters the production cycle as secondary raw material.

The PFAS challenge

Some pollutants are more insidious than others. PFAS — the so-called “forever chemicals” — resist degradation and spread through water with extreme ease. Activated carbon is currently one of the most widely used technologies for PFAS removal, but it can involve significant operating costs. That is why we have started a research partnership with the Politecnico di Milano, aimed at developing solutions that reduce activated carbon consumption and, more broadly, the operating costs of treating water contaminated by these pollutants.

Components built to last

Sustainability also comes down to the construction details of our machines. On filter press plates, for example, we have replaced the handle — one of the components most prone to damage — with a cast-aluminium version bolted onto the plate: if it is damaged, only the handle needs to be replaced, rather than the entire plastic plate. In the same way, we have minimised the reinforcement bosses in the plate design, to limit wear on the filter cloths and extend their service life, reducing how often they have to be replaced.

And within Tecnoidea itself?

We apply the same attention to resource efficiency within our own operations, from major investments to everyday working practices.

From major structural measures to the shift towards electric, down to the “small” everyday habits, we work every day to bring this awareness into our company.

Solar energy

Photovoltaic panels across the entire factory roof, with the goal of greater energy self-sufficiency.

Mobility

Most of the company car fleet is electric or hybrid, with several charging stations installed on site.

Less plastic

Single-use bottles eliminated and replaced with metal water bottles and water dispensers at various points around the factory.

Choosing an efficient plant is the first step towards sustainability

Anyone who installs one of our plants immediately reduces the amount of water drawn, the volume of waste sent for disposal and the costs that come with it. Sustainability is a direct result of how efficiently our water and sludge treatment plants work.
