Flocculation is a physicochemical process used in water treatment to promote solid-liquid separation.
Through the automated preparation and dosing of flocculants, fine suspended particles aggregate into larger flocs, accelerating settling and clarification.
Designed for efficient flocculation with controlled reagent use, our units are available in a single-chamber configuration for lower flow rates or a three-chamber configuration for higher flow rates.

Discover the productHow flocculation works and when it is used

In the washing of natural aggregates or the treatment of contaminated soils, the wash water contains very fine suspended particles which may carry similar surface charges and therefore remain dispersed in suspension, settling only slowly by gravity and keeping the water turbid.

At this stage, flocculant is dosed into the turbid water, promoting the aggregation of the particles into larger, denser flocs. Following flocculation, the suspended solids settle rapidly to the bottom of the clarifier cone, while the clarified water rises to the surface to be recirculated. The result is clarified water and a thickened sludge ready for dewatering.

Flocculant selection and dosing depend on the characteristics of the material being treated. Road-sweeping wash water, which may contain organic contaminants and hydrocarbons, may require a different flocculant-unit configuration and sizing from clay-rich quarry sludge. For this reason, each flocculant unit is configured and sized for the specific behaviour of the material being treated.
